Description

This is skilled work in the operation of large vehicles and public works equipment maintaining Lee County rights of way, canals, and roadways with the Department of Transportation Operations Division.

Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent most of the time spent working in this class. Work involves operating various types of equipment for ditch maintenance operations.

• Operates one or several types of heavy equipment, such as pickup trucks with trailers, dump trucks hauling ditch material, skid steer, front-end loader, and excavator.

• May operate hand and power tools.

• May be required to perform labor duties such as lay sod, shovel and/or raking duties. Haul debris to dump site. Haul road maintenance materials to job sites and stockpile at operations.

• Assist in other job duty responsibilities such as work on asphalt patch truck repairing potholes. Occasionally will install pipe.

• Perform minor operator related maintenance on related equipment.

• Repairs and maintains equipment; follows safety regulations; takes actions to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, or falling objects; locates underground utilities services, such as pipes or wires, prior to beginning work; monitors operations to ensure that health and safety standards are met. Performs related work as assigned.

• This job works under general supervision according to daily operations assigned by Supervisor, Maintenance and Crew Supervisor.

• Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

Education, Experience, Licensing

• Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School graduation or GED equivalent and one year heavy equipment operation or closely related experience.

• Possession of a valid Class B CDL with air brakes endorsement and an acceptable driving record is required.

• Possession of a valid Class A CDL with air brakes endorsement is preferred.

• This is a safety-sensitive position, which is subject to Drug & Alcohol Workplace testing as provided in DOT regulation 49CFR-parts 40 and /or 382.

• The work days and hours for this position are Monday - Thursday 7:00am - 5:30pm.
