Job Description

Job Summary:

This position is an integral part of the monthly general ledger close and quarterly reporting process related to capital assets and billable projects. Primary responsibilities include preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, account analysis and preparation of management reporting.

Job Duties:

  • Assists in the compilation of biennial overhead studies for both U.S. and Mexico

  • Assists in month-end calculation, analysis, recording and reporting for work trains and related overhead credits

  • Prepares monthly amortization entries for certain liabilities

  • Reviews and processes requests and contracts to establish billable projects within SAP

  • Completes monthly journal entries to record a contra-expense (e.g., credit) for billable MOW supervisory labor, equipment rents, meals and per diems, gang labor and lodging

  • Prepares various internal management reports

  • Identifies and recommends process improvements as necessary

  • Tracks, monitors, and reports on the aging of open receivables

  • Prepares monthly account reconciliations for customer receivable, suspense accounts and liability amortizations

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university - Accounting or Finance preferred

  • Three (3) years experience in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline

  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience

Certification Requirements:

  • CPA preferred (or in process of obtaining certification)

Preferred Requirements:

  • Master’s degree

  • Solid working understanding of financial statements and GAAP

  • SAP experience

  • Capital accounting and/or railroad experience
