Job Description

Job Summary:

Position is responsible for the management of all mechanical related service interruptions on the KCSR system. Oversees the handling of bad order KCS locomotives, cars, and End of Train Devices (EOT) to system repair facilities. Consults with foreign carriers on the routing of bad order KCS locomotives back to KCSR. Assures compliance of FRA rules in regards to mechanical operations.

Job Duties:

Troubleshoots mechanical issues with train crews via radio communication.

Oversees mechanical field personnel and advises on appropriate troubleshooting steps with the goal of aiding in the repair of locomotives and freight rail cars line of road.

Understands the different types of locomotive defects and the needed repairs to coordinate the routing of locomotives to specific shops for repair.

Communicates to mechanical field managers the mechanical issues by providing specific information: train symbol, location of train delayed, description of failure defect, and time mechanical is needed to assist.

Manages the repair of locomotives at locations outside of major repair facility.

Manages corrective action plan to train dispatchers, locomotive managers, corridor managers, transportation field managers and KCSR train crews of mechanical delays and plans to resolve them.

Manages and coordinates the shopping and routing of captive locomotives to outside points with mechanical and transportation department.

Manages and updates the KCSR LMS & MCS systems.

Consults with foreign carriers on bad order locomotives on the handling of the locomotives to repair facilities.

Assures compliance with FRA rules regarding locomotives, freight cars, and EOTs.

Completes required daily reports within directed time line.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university - General Studies

1 year railroad mechanical locomotive and car background

Experience working with LMS and MCS

Experience in freight car, locomotive, and KCSR transportation plan preferred w/mechanical emphasis

Or equivalent combination of education and experience
