This position exists to serve as the Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) for Southwest Minnesota State University by providing subject matter expertise and advanced strategic HR leadership to administrators, faculty and staff within the designated division on a wide range of human resources functions including but not limited to; employee/labor relations, employee retention, classification/range assignment, compensation, benefits, retirement, orientation and onboarding, and talent and organizational management. The HRBP ensures compliance with collective bargaining agreements, Minnesota State (MinnState) policies, and state and federal laws.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Psychology or related field AND at least two (2) years of human resources experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Professional human resources experience in functional areas such as talent sourcing, classification, compensation, employee relations, labor relations and/or training and development.

  • Ability to communicate effective and professionally, with sensitivity and discretion.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Advanced verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Proficient computer skills, especially Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five (5) or more years of general human resources experience.

  • Excellent intercultural competency skills and experience working inclusively with people from diverse backgrounds.

  • Experience leading change management activities, building trust among teams, and attracting talent.

  • Experience working in a multi-union environment.

  • Working knowledge of employment laws such as:FMLA, FLSA, ADA, EEO.

  • Working knowledge of collective bargaining agreements and applicable laws.

  • Excellent process facilitation and project management skills.

Additional Requirements

In accordance with the Minnesota State Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State's vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
