Introduction

The IBM Blue Studio is an in-house, global studio within the Marketing Center with experts specializing in brand, design, video, editorial, case study development, social and web, as well as agile coaching and application development. We offer a range of innovative services from the strategic to the tactical and work very closely with our marketing clients to improve their business outcomes.

The Blue Studio Design Practice is looking for an experienced and highly motivated User Experience Designer who is passionate about ideas, brand experience and design, and looking to work with like-minded people. The professional must be a strategic thinker and researcher, with a profound awareness of simple smart design, and a keen eye for a modernist approach to information design. The right candidate should be focused on designing the structural and informational foundation for the work and be able to synthesize and recommend, based on research insights, user analysis, and context. They should have experience with a range of multimedia projects and be able to apply skills and thinking to nuanced and complex systems.

Your Role and Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Defining or contributing to user experience goals and applying design principles.

  • Conduct user research, interviews and surveys, and use the information to create sitemaps, customer journey maps, wireframes, interaction hierarchies, taxonomies, and prototypes.

  • Contribute to delivering elements, interactions, and decisions that add value to the total user experience.

  • Command of human-centered design best practices.

  • Facilitating and designing for the relational aspects across every part of the experience.

  • Deep understanding of IBM's business strategies and goals.

  • Command of IBM brand's vision, systems, and documentation.

  • Help advance experience design at IBM.

  • Contribute to style guides, UI toolkits, and other design documents, as needed.

  • Work with senior design team members to establish priority, fidelity and delivery of tasks.

  • Effectively communicate conceptual ideas and detailed design rationale both verbally and visually.

  • Speak and present to range of stakeholders.

  • Ensuring quality control and outcomes.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Relevant experience in a digital design or user experience position.

  • A deep understanding of user-centered design and strong analytical abilities.

  • Knowledge of relevant technologies.

  • Distinguishing good design from bad, careless from well-conceived and crafted.

  • Designing experiences across media.

  • Awareness and understanding of grids, typography, graphic design, color, layout, iconography, imagery, and design patterns and systems fundamental to the IBM Design brand.

  • Problem solving and idea generation, effectively visualizing and creating concepts into the end products.

  • Thriving in an agile development environment and team.

  • Collaboration with others-stakeholders, technical teams, partners and other designers.

  • Actively seeking feedback and review of work; accept and act upon creative/technical direction.

  • Being passionate, confident, empathetic, positive and approachable.

  • Attention-to-detail, strong organizational skills and time management.

Language:

  • Advanced / Fluent English.

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • BFA or MFA in user experience design (or hands-on experience in digital design)

  • Applications: Figma, Adobe Creative Suite (highly proficient), MS Office (.PPT).
