Forest Service Engineering Equipment Operator in United States

Summary Part of the road construction and maintenance crew operating dozers, motor graders, backhoes, loaders, excavators, and other pieces of heavy equipment. Applications will expire every 90 days. Responsibilities Operate engineering construction equipment, such as graders, tractors with bulldozer, front-end loaders, backhoes, trench diggers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments to push, pull, fill, pile, or load gravel or earth. Operate heavy trucks and vehicles with manual transmissions, dual transmissions, and multiple gear boxes on a routine basis. Perform preventive maintenance and make minor repairs and adjustments on automobiles, trucks, and heavy equipment. Use blueprints, specifications, diagrams, or work orders associated with road maintenance or earth moving to produce work meeting such specifications. Operate heavy equipment to complete excavation, backfilling, and grading of construction materials to specifications as required on such projects as roads, ditches, campgrounds, minor and major culverts, and other construction projects. Perform routine maintenance on heavy equipment, heavy trucks, and tractors/trailers such as but not limited to greasing, adding fluids, and changing cutting edges/wear surfaces. Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc.(related to mobile equipment operation) Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles) Reliability and Dependability as an Engineering Equipment Operator Additional Requirements (Screen-out): Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Must possess and maintain a valid class A CDL as a condition of employment. Drug Testing - This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Department of Transportation (DOT)/Forest Service Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Program. Applicants must acknowledge this requirement to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use unless they currently occupy a TDP under the DOT/Forest Service Alcohol and Controlled Substances Testing Program. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education There is no substitution of education for specialized experience. Additional Information The USDA Forest Service has legislative authority to recruit and fill Permanent (Career/Career-Conditional), Temporary, and Term Appointments under the USDA Demonstration Project. Positions filled will be full-time; or full-time seasonal with either 13 pay periods of guaranteed pay status and 13 pay periods of nonpay time or 18 pay periods of guaranteed pay status and 8 pay periods of nonpay time.
